FILM PROGRAMMING PANEL

Ruth Somalo is a Spanish curator, filmmaker and researcher based in New York. She works as Features Programmer at DOC NYC, at The Architecture and Design Film Festival, and was co-director of Impugning Impunity Human Rights Film Festival and a programmer for DocumentaMadrid for several years. As an independent curator she has presented radical non-fiction programs like “The Limit of our gaze”, “Holy Fluids and Absent Wounds”, “Queer Utopias”; and “Broken Senses”. Ruth is the President of The Flaherty’s Board of Trustees, has directed and produced four feature documentaries and several shorts and is finishing her PhD. dissertation.

A PANEL ON FILM PROGRAMMING

Emelyn Stuart has produced numerous documentaries and shorts that have won awards and garnered the attention of network television. In 2013, she launched the Ocktober Film Festival in New York City to educate, empower and inspire filmmakers. After several years of hosting the festival, she opened Stuart Cinema and Cafe in Brooklyn as an affordable alternative for film screenings.

Aliza Ma is head of Programming at Metrograph theater in New York City. Prior to that she was the Museum of the Moving Image’s assistant film curator. She has programmed series highlighting the works of director Wong Kar-Wai, actress Maggie Cheung, and others.
